In class we are measuring the distance between the roots of a mangrove tree that grows in the Everglades. The students created a life size mangrove tree out of large bulletin board paper. We looked up the measurements on the Everglades website, and made our tree roots to those measurements using rulers.

A great way to practice converting measurements, especially for my ESOL students, is to play a fun measurement game with a beaver named FunBrain at funbrain.com.
